GIAC releases engine performance software for the 991.2 Carrera S!

This calibration delivers peak-to-peak performance gains of 85 hp and 95-105 ft/lb torque. The program offers smooth part throttle driving and gear transitions, but a substantial increase in power at full load.

Software features included:
– Increased boost
– Changes to fuel and timing
– Higher torque limits

Performance gains displayed in the dyno plot shown were achieved with the GIAC software upgrade only using 93 octane. Additional power increases may be observed with additional performance hardware and/or higher octane fuel.

PRESS RELEASE

KW suspension unveils compression and rebound adjustable Variant 3 Dampers for Porsche 911 G-Series

Fichtenberg (Germany), November 8th, 2016 – For decades, the Porsche 911 has been synonymous with the term sports car. Available now, the suspension manufacturer KW automotive also offers adjustable shock absorbers for numerous historic Porsche 911 (G- models) produced from 1973 – 1989. The dampers from KW suspensions are available in two versions, the Variant 3, where the standard torsion bars on the front and rear axle are utilized, as well as a KW Clubsport variant for track day use, with a racing spring system, adjustable inverted mono tube dampers and adjustable top mounts. While the Variant 3 dampers are immediately available, the KW Clubsport coilovers for the Porsche 911 G-model will be available at the Essen Motor Show. The V3 dampers, which can be adjusted in compression and rebound, do not require an entry into the vehicle papers. For the KW Clubsport coilovers, a certificate is included. In addition, KW offers various KW Competition suspensions thoroughbred from KW’s motorsports pedigree for the classic Porsche 911.

The classic Porsche 911 models have been characterized for decades by a timeless styling coupled with unadulterated sportiness. Everywhere in the world, the “911” is known as a sports car icon. In addition to the Porsche 911 “original model” (1963 – 1973), the Porsche 911 “G-model”, built from 1973 to 1989, enjoys an unimagined popularity. The demand for an individual suspension kit is accordingly high. Now, KW Variant 3 shock absorbers are available with independently adjustable compression and rebound damping as a complete suspension set with galvanized steel housings for all Porsche 911 (from model year 1974) built from 1973 – 1989. For the first time, it is possible that a suspension kit for the Porsche 911 (G-model) with road approval can be adjusted in driving behavior individually to your own personal driving demands. “Like with every KW suspension development, our adjustable dampers for the Porsche G-model is a vehicle-specific application”, says KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. „For the development, in addition to driving tests on various test and race tracks, we have also used our 7-post rig. This has the great advantage that we can determine an ideal basic setup with at any time reproducible test cycles, even in advance of our test drives without any subjective influence.”

Less body roll on bad roads with a more neutral driving behaviour

With the integrated click-type compression and rebound adjusters, it is easy to individually adjust to the recommended basic setup of the damper. For example, with its 16 click settings, the rebound allows you to directly influence the handling characteristics as well as the driving comfort. With the low speed compression valve, which can be adjusted in twelve clicks, the driving behavior of the classic Porsche can be further increased if desired. For example, a higher compression level on the front axle allows more direct steering, and on the rear axle, higher compression damping forces counteract oversteer. Due to the digressive valve assembly of the preconfigured high speed compression valve, the damping reacts in a positive manner when suddenly driving over bumps on the street. The dampers & wheel can react immediately which prevents the feeling of jumping over a curb. The Porsche 911 equipped with the adjustable KW shock absorbers provides much more direct handling and gains significantly more grip on the rear axle without an increased tendency oversteer. Even the ride comfort is improved. The great advantage besides a quantum leap in terms of driving dynamics is that the “KW suspension kit” features replacement spring struts and dampers, so time-consuming strut conversions with replacement cartridges is not necessary. Also, the standard torsion bar springs on the front and rear axle can still be used.

For the historic motorsports aficionado, KW also manufactures different racing suspensions with independent compression and rebound damping settings for the Porsche 911 G-model, depending on the regulations. Based on this experience, the basis of the KW Clubsport coilovers are a racing suspension system, adjustable aluminum Uniball top mounts and 2-way high-performance shock absorbers in an inverted mono tube design on the front axle as well as aluminum damper housings on the rear axle. Increased rebound forces ensure a tighter handling and a significantly reduced rolling of the body. So at very high speeds the steering precision is improved at the driving limit, while on the uneven and wavy road surfaces, a lower rebound stage is advantageous. On the upper damper housing of the KW Clubsport coilover kit for the Porsche 911, the compression stage can be changed with twelve clicks to further increase the driving behavior of the vehicle. “Due to our racing springs and the elimination of the torsion brs, when installing our KW Clubsport coilovers, no special race suitable torsion bars need to be retrofitted”, says KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. The KW Clubsport coilover kit features a certificate and so it can also be used in public road traffic.

Falken Tribute

Falken Tire Tribute

Historically Porsche has always been a brand well-represented by customer and privateer teams in motorsport. It could be argued that the modern-day formula for mass-production GT racing cars was pioneered, developed and wholly built by Porsche with the advent of the Cup cars back into the late 80s. Still, as modern GT racing has become more and more cost prohibitive and fewer teams, companies or individuals either can’t or choose not to foot the bill, the number of privateer teams running the top-level GT 911, the RSR, can be counted on one hand. That number next year may well fall to zero. Team Falken Tire has announced that with the completion of the 2015 IMSA Tudor United Sportscar Championship they will officially end their RSR program.
