Race Preparation:

The nature of Porsche means that most owners will find themselves and their car at the racetrack at some point. Some Porsches are dedicated track cars. This type of use requires a different level of maintenance and preparation to make sure that you and your car are safe. Everything happens much faster at the racetrack, and one thing to remember is you are moving, and just about everything else you can make contact with is not. Track events are a dangerous environment, but with the proper car it can be fun and you can have a rewarding time. There are many levels of involvement from weekend Driver's Education, and Autocross events to all out professional events such as the Daytona 24 hrs. We understand the demands of track use on your Porsche and we prepare our customer vehicles accordingly. Professional preparation is vital in order to get the best and most rewarding performance from your Porsche. Track time is valuable.

  • • Safety check, nut and bolt check of fasteners.
    • Car set up, four wheel alignment, corner balance.
    • Brake preparation and potential upgrades.
    • Powertrain checks and modifications.
    • A range of wheels and tires.
    • Chassis upgrades.
    • Race seats / Safety systems.
    • Data acquisition systems.
    • Roll cage installation and design.

Safety:

First and foremost importance is safety. Proper fire suppression equipment, proper seating, safety harness and installation are an absolute must. It is surprising to us to see how many cars have improper, outdated, or improperly installed safety equipment. In our standards, safety equipment is the first modification to any street car that will see action on track. There are dos and don'ts with installation. Make sure your car has the proper equipment.

Suspension:

Suspension tuning is a series of compromises, with adjustments having definite positive and negative effects of different aspects of the vehicle's handling performance. We ensure that your car is working how it should on road and track. By making controlled changes to the vehicles geometry we can help you to get the best performance from the chassis for the environment that you and your car will experience. Camber, caster, toe, rake, weight jacking, spring rates, damper valving, sway bars, tire pressures and compounds all affect the vehicle suspension dynamics. There are a lot of variables, and require a tremendous amount of time experimenting to determine what chassis requires for optimum performance. Our race experience has allowed us to garner knowledge in Porsche chassis preparation. With most 911, 964, 993, 996 there are package type upgrades for track prepared street cars.

Scaling:

Scaling a car is the most critical part of track car set-up. Fine measurements, and protocol are certain; this is necessary to achieve accurate set ups. Electronic scales rest on a level platen under each wheel. These provide accurate readings of each corner weight of the vehicle so technicians can check that it's correctly balanced. To re-adjust the balance of the car, technicians alter the damper platform height of each corner to change the ride height and re-distribute the overall weight of the vehicle to other corners of the car. The smallest changes to dampers in turn can have an effect on the ride height, which also affects the geometry and weight distribution of the car. It is therefore vital that in order for your car to be balanced that all parameters are checked and adjusted together.

Brakes:

gt3 brakesPorsche has always had world renowned braking capabilities. There are also a huge variety of brakes used on Porsches over the years, so retrofitting bigger brakes, from later models is possible. With all the "go fast" goodies, brakes must be considered to balance the modifications to power output. There are manufacturers (AP, Brembo, PFC, and Stoptech) that specialize in performance brake options for upgraded street cars, or dedicated track cars. Brake pads come in different friction coefficients that can dramatically improve brakes under track use. Additional cooling, and increases in pad and rotor area can keep up with the modifications to the engine.

Data Acquisition:

MoTeC dashTechnology has become a great advantage with racing over the years, and now with many cost effective options for the racer, one can hone their skills seeing hard data. Formula 1 has always been the pinnacle of auto racing, and the knowledge trickles down to other racing venues and even street cars after development. Now many of the same types of technology used in F1 can be adapted to sports cars. MoTeC dataThe same systems used in our race cars can be adapted to club race or even street cars. Data can be logged and monitored on now dozens of channels to help with adjustments. Suspension dynamics, engine parameters, drive train, speeds, temps, environment, and on and on can all be monitored with ease to allow educated tuning of the vehicle. The data can then be downloaded onto a laptop, archived, and examined. There are several levels, and options, but any is a great addition, and update to analog gauges.

Historic Racing:

993 GT2As time goes on there are more and more cars that fall into historic category. Our history allows us to take care of these fine machines. Porsche has always had a strong presence in motorsport, and many of these vehicles are actually still being used in historic events such as HSR, SVRA, and other specialized events. 993 and some 996 factory race cars are now considered vintage in the racing world. As these cars age, care of equipment, and keeping track of individual component life ensures that mechanical failures are kept to a minimum. Long term storage consequences are also something to consider when these cars are returned to service.

Many parts for 962, 964 RS, 993 RSR/GT2 cars are still available. If you own one of these cars and are in need of service, please contact us to discuss your needs.

Pro-Racing:

The American LeMans Series (ALMS), World Challenge, Grand-AM, or FIA are the professional series in North America for Porsche racers. The new Porsche motorsport products are tested and developed under these sanctioning bodies. There is more info under our motorsport section, but if you are in need of GT3 parts or considering campaigning a car in one of these series please contact us.

Transport:

For our customers, we are working on a transport method to the local tracks to help with personal logistics, and trackside support. Stay tuned for more information.
