Porsche Carrera GT (980) options

During the 1980's Porsche left their mark of option codes on the car itself. Before this time much of this kind of information was not known without contacting the factory, or chances some paperwork remained with the car since manufacture.

In 1978 (with the introduction of the 911SC) the VIN tag or chassis tag was used on all Porsche models, as a way to have more information avaliable to owners. This tag is found in different places for each model ( under front trunk lid of 911, and rear trunk floor for 928, 944 cars for example ) The same tag was also placed in the warranty/service booklet that resides with the owner's manual. The information on the tag includes VIN number, vehicle type, engine and transmission type and serial numbers, as well as the optional equipment as it left the factory.

The Carrera GT was the first car to carry the revised coding system, and with the introduction of the 987/997 cars MY 2005, the traditional M-coding now carries an (I) instead of an (M).
